As we wrap up our 1st, 1st quarter, we’d like to say a whole-hearted thank you for being a part of the journey. As founders of Boise’s only locally-owned, holistic indoor cycle studio we feel immense gratitude for the outpouring of support and enthusiasm from our community. Only in Boise could two industry outsiders dream big, roll up their sleeves, and with the support of other local businesses, a talented staff, and the love and support of our family and friends bring to life a vision of a smart cycle experience.
Earlier this month, we asked you about your experience at UPCycle. We thought we’d be lucky if we heard from 20 of you. We heard from over 100! Thank you for taking the time to give us your thoughts and suggestions. Check out what we learned:
- You guys love the hybrid classes (Ride & Restore) and you want more evening classes.
- 5:30pm is too early on a workday. Pilates, barre, and HIIT classes are a must (we’re working on it…stay tuned for a late spring schedule enhancement)!
But above all, we heard that:
- You want an unlimited membership!
Well, YOU have spoken and we have listened.
We’d like to announce that UpCycle is offering two membership options:
- a 3-month Seasonal Pass ($125/month), and
- an Annual Unlimited Pass ($99/month).
The memberships allow you to:
- Take as many classes as you’d like
- Include 1 guest pass/month for you to give to a family or friend
- Complementary yoga mat rental and shower towel service
In making our pricing decisions, we carefully surveyed every boutique studio in the Valley. Given our technology, equipment, and the multiple experiences offered of indoor cycling, yoga, TRX, and spa-like amenities, we hope you find our rates competitive and fair.
But don’t worry, for those of you who prefer the flexibility of punch cards, they aren't going anywhere.
As we move forward, Allen and I took some time to revisit our 3 founding goals that we had when we started down this road over a year ago. They were:
- UPCycle would inspire our guests to give themselves the gift of holistic physical activity.
- UPCycle would be a place of inspiration, motivation, and socialization.
- UPCycle would give back to the city and community that we love so dearly.
From what we heard, we are on our way in meeting the first two goals. And to meet our 3rd, we hold Karma Rides every Friday night where 50% of sales sold go towards a local non-profit. In February, they went to Global Talent Idaho where we raised $330. And heading into March, we are raising funds for the Idaho Foodbank.
But to us, it isn't enough. That is why beginning in April, we are taking steps to reclassify as a Benefit Corporation. A Benefit Corporation is a type of corporation that as part of its strategic goals, must include a positive impact on society, workers, the community and the environment.
What does this mean for you? Well, in addition to Karma Rides, beginning in late spring, we will feature a new program called: Small Change, that will feature a rotating group of local non-profits, each with their own "bank." After every workout, you will receive a token that you can put in any one of the organizations' "banks." Throughout the month, you'll see how just how much your sweat translates to financial support for those who do good in our city.
When people walk through our doors, they cite goals of weight loss, feeling more confident, or training for an event. Changes in ourselves don't happen overnight (as much as we'd like). Instead they are the result of small changes that we make consciously, every single day, that over time, result in us becoming closer to our ideal selves. We hope that Small Change will serve as a metaphor for your fitness journey: that the one workout, or that one token today doesn't seem like much, but over time, can exponentially grow in potential and hope beyond your wildest dreams.
Thank you again for your support and encouragement, Boise. Let's keep riding.
See you in the saddle,
Christine & Allen
